Dear Myron,

I found your article fascinating, and look forward very much to the publication of your upcoming book, as it appears that there is little available information on identifying traditional folk and literary characters as represented in Chinese art.

I have a small collection of san xai, and am hoping that you would be willing to help me identify the two figurines in the attached photos.

Thank you so very much!
Deborah Schmidt

A good friend who knows that I collect "mud men" gave me this one as a Xmas gift. The height is almost 10 inches which makes it the tallest in my collection.

Thank you Deborah, I'm sorry about this late reply, after moving and going through a divorce,I changed internet service providers and lost my original login information to AOB as well, what you have is a fisherman mud figure and a priest figure, best regards Myron.

Yes, the tree is gorgeous and the scene is very natural with the old sage shading himself, thanks for sharing,Myron.

I am interested in talking to professional bonsai enthusiasts who collect antique chinese mudfigures, I have several that belonged to Vaughn Banting I won at the AOB auction, I thought it would make an interesting addition to the book I am about to finish writing on the subject, if anyone is interested let me know here or email: antiquemudman@yahoo.com. ,thanks Myron.

Another birthday. Another mudman!

This happy guy came from the same store in my town, KING MILLION ARTS, that some of my past posts have come from.
Height is about 7 inches.
