This thread is for the discussion of the Art of Bonsai Awards.

Questions about the contest, rules, or other subjects are welcomed.

Please do not discuss the entries until after the judging is completed and the winners have been announced.

For those seeking help with photography, Carl Bergstrom has an excellent article on photographing bonsai that can be found at http://octavia.zoology.washington.edu/b ... otography/

The correct link should be:

http://octavia.zoology.washington.edu/b ... otography/

The one you provided Will does not work.

I am absolutely delighted about the contest. not so much about the winning of a prize.

what appeals to me most is the fact that people with experience and knowledge will critique my trees. I can not wait for this.

After viewing the 3 entries, I feel that even the 'country' should not be mentioned against the entries so as to make the contest as much neutral as possible; only the Code number should suffice.

I also agree...It should be the tree which is judged, not the artist or his origination...Perhaps this is just an overlooked item from the last contest where the artist's country was important...

For clarification.

The height of a bonsai should be considerd the distance from the soil surface to the highest point of the apex. Pots should not be included in this measurement.

For this categories: Best Companion Planting, is intended Shitakusa and Kusamono?

Will, I see you separate the entry by catagory...then how if one bonsai is entered for more than 2 categories e.g. broad leaf and landscape ?

If an entry qualifies for multiple requested categories, then the picture will be put in all related category sections, retaining the same entry number in each for tracking purposes. However, the entry will be listed in multiple places on the judges scoring sheet, so the entry will be scored more than once, using your example, once for a landscape entry and once for a Broad Leaf entry.

Fair enough?
