Will you are missing my point that I was trying to make before. My question had to do with the fact, of the huge difference between the scores of the 3 judges! No well written lesson in bonsai viewing can change this fact for me or other well trained bonsai professional that read it. And don't get me wrong here, I am pleased that Mike won a price for his work, good for him! But it was the many many very negative reactions that were posted on many bonsai forums around Europe after they saw the scoring cards, that triggered me to ask the question to explain why there were so many strange and huge difference in the scoring!
Don't be surprised, that if you don't take this seriously, many will think twice before entering a other competition again! Many who viewed or entered this competition are well trained and educated top bonsai professionals that are not so easily fooled and know a good or bad bonsai when they see one! I think that if you want to make groundbreaking competitions, you should at least look in to this seriously. I am sorry that I was the bringer of this bad news, my intentions were honorable and well meant! Do with it what you want, for me this subject is closed now.
Regards,
Hans van Meer.

Hans,

I took this seriously enough to create a special thread for the discussion a few days ago. Please see viewtopic.php?f=66&t=2623

I also have never seen a single contest where there wasn't somewhat of a differing range between scores from different judges from different cultures, this is why AoB uses multiple judges and averages the scores.

Please read my whole response at the link above

Congratulations to the worthy winners. A job very well done to the organisers and the judges.

I would be grateful to receive the judges comments on my two entries AOB 209 and AOB 210 as it would help me greatly in my future endevours.

Hi,
I note that the contest is now shown as finished.

Does that mean that Bill Valvanis' invitation, to seek criticism in this forum (presumably from him?) is no longer extended to those who have posted replies?

It appears there were a few who were interested, me being one, in seeking help to improve our efforts for the future.

Will that not now take place?

Dave Martin

The contest is finished, the discussion is not. We denote contests as being finished to advoid people from trying to enter and to advoid confusion. We do this instead of closing or locking the threads, which would kill all discussion.
