Minimalism is the word you seem to be looking for, Gil.
I have liked the simple, clean lines of minimalist design since I was a small child. The fact that bonsai and Tokonoma embody that feeling, for me, is a bonus.
I can't say the same for abstract artworks, arranged alongside bonsai displays. I think that bonsai deserve more attention to the cultural background from which they came... it's a part of a whole, not an end in itself.
