Until not very long ago, 'bonsai' was the name of an obscure Japanese art form to me, best known from among the exotic references of the Art Deco movement. And old trees something worth a weekend travel to admire up in the mountains. I am only too glad to have found out that the tools nature has at hand are accessible to the extent demonstrated here, and their use allows such enjoyment of art and company.

File comment: A younger brother. A ravine exposed to periodic flash-floods is responsible for several dozen trees growing tremendous roots over and above rocky ground, much like a giant's basket weave - many too extended to capture in a single shot.
