I am fortunate to have acquired a chinese elm with potential to become bonsai. while the tree has a long way to go, it has the qualities for success. please enjoy the photos.

File comment: initial work included washing away the old soil, pruning old roots/reducing the rootball, shortening the height by 6 inches, removing rotted deadwood from an old cut scar, repotting the tree in pure akadama

File comment: original front. new back? done for now. the tree has been placed in an opaque plastic bag to increase warmth and humidity. in a matter of days new buds are showing. when the tree recovers, branches will be shortened for compactness. branching and ramification to be developed by clip and grow training.
